FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What types of projects do you work on?
Our projects are primarily residential homes throughout San Diego County. We work on all sizes of projects from small one room makeovers to large new construction. Our specialty is in providing our clients with a style that reflect their personalities and preferences. We create timeless designs in all styles; including traditional, eclectic, craftsman, coastal or contemporary styles.

I'm planning on building or remodeling my home, when should I contact an interior designer?
We would be happy to assist you at anytime during your project. However, a professional designer is a valuable resource at the very inception of your project. Many people think that interior designers only assist with furniture, window treatments, and accessories. That is only a portion of what a designer could do for you and your project. We have worked successfully with a team of other design professionals, including architects, contractors, builders, subcontractors, and landscape architects to bring you the best possible outcome for your project. It's best to assemble your "dream team" at the very beginning. This will prevent costly mistakes or living with materials or spaces you are unhappy with.

How do you create a home that will reflect my personality?
Listening is the most important part of the design process. We listen to our client's thoughts, ideas and visions. We pay attention to the items they currently own and love. We then help them put these concepts into a cohesive design plan. Creating a beautiful home is easy. We will go the extra mile to bring you a home that functions well and reflects your own particular style. Our ultimate goal is for you to love your home every time you walk in the door.

Where do you find products for my home?
We have a vast community of resources that we draw upon. In addition to having access to high quality furnishings available only to interior designers, we also have relationships with many retail stores. Our workrooms produce the highest quality craftsmanship in custom window treatments, bedding and custom furniture. Over the years we have developed a trusted group of sub-contractors (tile installers, painters, electricians, refinishers, decorative wall artists) who take great pride in their work.

How do you charge?
We usually present a fee based proposal. This is an amount which is calculated after reviewing the size and scope of your project and your needs. This will be discussed at our initial meeting and explained in detail in our letter of agreement. On occasion, we may charge hourly rates for a smaller project.

What should I expect from our first meeting?
Once an appointment for an initial consultation has been scheduled, we will send you literature on our company with additional information on what to expect. This consultation usually lasts one hour and there is no charge for this first meeting. At this meeting, I will learn more about your project and what you are trying to achieve. I will not be giving you any design ideas at this time, but will explain to you how we might be able to work together and answer any questions you may have.

How can I prepare for our initial consultation appointment?
  1. Think about what you want your project to achieve. Will you be remodeling your home in phases or all at one time? What is important to your family? What do you love that you already have. Think about how you use the space. How do you entertain? What are your hobbies? Do you love to cook? Are there aging-in-place considerations? Do you have pets?
  2. Decide on a budget and how much you want to spend. I will be able to assist you in estimating costs.
  3. Collect pages from design magazines of rooms or products that you love. Even if there is only one item on the page that you like, circle it and add it to your design concept folder.

Don't forget... your home's exterior is also
a living space and we can help you!

"My husband, Steve, and I lost our home in the San Diego 2007 wild fires. A friend referred me to Lori and after our first meeting I was very comfortable with having her assist us in a wide variety of design projects. It was one of the best decisions I made about rebuilding our house. As the passing of time has shown, I don’t know what I would have done without her.

Lori quickly grasped and worked with my tastes, ideas and budget. On her own, she has a great sense of style and design flow that has made working with her not only beneficial and rewarding, but fun. She quickly grasped what is important to us, what our preferences are, and how we envisioned living in our home.

Lori knows how to effectively navigate through the maze of contractors, building supply stores, furniture showrooms, etc. She knows where to find everything…and she does it with a smile. She’s also there for you in a “crisis” with a cool head and clear way to fix things. She’s a real professional."
